Hello, I just want to share my experience... I'm a 27 yr old male at normal weight. I had bilateral lap surgery to repair an old hernia (right side)that was causing me some trouble when I injured it working in a construction job + playing golf (I did not have any budge showing just pain.) My left side was also hurting whenever I lifted weights or did some running or a lot of walking the thing is that I didn't have any lump or bulge on that side either...
when doctor went in to repair right side he looked at my left side also and said the tissue on my left side was really week so he also put a mesh on that side. on my right side (where I had open mesh repair when I was 14) he said he found some fat ball growing on that area along with some old scar tissue so he removed all that and put another patch on the right side also this time since it was lap the patch is under the muscle instead of on top per the old open procedure.
It's been 2 weeks since my surgery and I feel good about my recovery...I'm glad I went with the lap procedure, the pain is a lot less than the open procedure (I was on paid meds only 4 days after surgery as opposed to 2 weeks with open) and the recovery so far has been much faster than my open procedure (I was walking around the house two days after as opposed to 2 weeks with open). I am very optimistic about getting back into the gym and all the activities that I love... don't get me wrong there is still some pain and discomfort but I'm not going to concentrate on that I'm going to push forward and push through the discomfort.
I feel that the more you stay in one position i.e.: sitting down or in bed... the more chance there is for scar tissue to trap some nerves and complicate things...of course every case is different... thank Good in my case there was almost no swelling or bruising after surgery so I'm sure that helps in my quick recovery.
